San Francisco

Hey guys, it's Rachel
Today I'm going to be talking about a city I visited almost two years ago- San Francisco. This city is in  north California on the west coast of America- or the 'golden coast,' which it is often referred to as. The population of the city was over 835,000 as recorded by the American Community Survey in 2013. San Francisco is the third largest city in California, and has the fourth highest population in the state.

In this picture you can notice the steep hill that the tram is going down. San Francisco is often called the 'hilly city,' due to the number of steep hills that run throughout it.

San Francisco has many tourist attractions and sights, some of the most famous attractions include; the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz Island, Lombard street, Golden Gate Park, Fisherman's Wharf, Union square and many more! The Golden Gate bridge is an iconic bridge and is painted 'international orange.' You may know that San Francisco often gets low lying fog. The Golden Gate bridge can actually influence the direction of the fog, and it can often push the fog beneath the bridge.

San Francisco is also well known for its cable car line, these days it is mainly used by tourists and is far more expensive than it used to be. Alcatraz is also a famous prison, on an island in SF bay. However, there are no prisoners held there anymore, and it is now open to the public for tours of the jail and the island itself. Lombard street is another attraction that San Francisco has to offer- it is the world's twistiest street. The reason the road has so many twists, is because it is on such a steep hill and without all of the bends, it would be too dangerous to drive down!

There are so many attractions to see in this city, from museums and the japanese tea garden
to Chinatown and Union square. There is plenty to do in this city whether you're on a weekend city break, or a holiday.
Thanks for reading!
